Note:

This lesson explains the additional special retirement benefits available to National Guard technicians who lose their technician positions due to the loss of military membership. If you retire from your Federal civilian position for any reason other than the loss of your military membership, you are subject to the same set of rules as other Federal civilian employees. For example, the loss of your civilian status as a result of a reduction-in-force, and not from loss of your military membership, would fall under general retirement eligibility rules and is not addressed by this lesson.

See the lessons in either the CSRS or FERS eSeminar modules for more information on determining your retirement eligibility and annuity benefit. Also see the other eSeminar modules (TSP and Benefits, Social Security Benefits, and Financial Planning for Retirement) to learn about issues that relate to all Federal employees.
